Rabbits from the hat on the big screen for the first time.

The stories of the rabbits from the hat are among the most extensive animated series produced by Czechoslovak and later Czech television. Bob and Bobek first appeared on television screens in 1979 and gradually gained a whole generation of child viewers and their parents. After more than four decades, it is time to let the rabbit heroes shine on the big screen.

The first feature film tells the story of Bob and Bobek, rabbits who live in a gardening colony in the old magician's marquee. The entire neighbourhood is just about to be humbled by this year's Golden Root competition for the best vegetables. Bob and Bobek want to participate too, but gardening isn't exactly their thing. One of the sneaky neighbours, whose name we won't reveal just yet, is desperate to win, so he doesn't hesitate to use forbidden chemicals. In addition, magic and the mysterious monster Carrot Eater come into play. Will the rabbits be able to overcome all the unexpected pitfalls and succeed in this exciting contest? Join us in keeping your fingers crossed :-).

Will Bob and Bobek manage to uncover the cunning neighbor's trick? Who ultimately wins the competition for the Golden Root? And what does the Carrot Eater actually look like?

We are continuing the tradition of Czech animation.

Animated film has a rich and award-winning history in the Czech Republic. Its beginnings are inextricably linked to the studio Bratři v triku and renowned animators such as Jiří Trnka, Zdeněk Smetana, Jiří Brdečka, Jiří Šalamoun, Adolf Born, and Zdeněk Miler. Since the 1940s, Czech animation has nurtured several generations of both child and adult viewers.

In recent years, we have noticed that Czech animated productions are gradually being overshadowed by foreign films in cinemas. Historically, the Czech Republic has been one of the world’s producers of animated films, fairy tales, and short animated series, known not only for their highly acclaimed quality but also for their quantity. This matters to us and to the rabbits. We are continuing the tradition of Czech animation and bringing to theaters a film that proudly claims to be among the best that was created in the Czech Republic in the last century.

We do not want to merely conserve old traditions, our audience lives here and now. Therefore, we have gently directed the animation to suit the tastes of the youngest generation, without literally abusing Bob and Bobek with technology. The film will capture the attention of child viewers, but it will not overwhelm them with visual overstimulation. Here, we differentiate ourselves from much of the foreign production, which is often aggressive and extremely fast. Bob and Bobek will delight, entertain, educate, and make children laugh, but they will not unnecessarily inundate them. In this sense, we continue to carry the legacy of past generations and look forward to all the little and big viewers who will come to support the rabbits in their entry to the big screen.

Vladimír Jiránek

Artist, caricaturist, director, creator of Bob and Bobek

The drawings of Vladimír Jiránek are easily recognizable by their characteristic, simple, occasionally interrupted lines, depicting faces that range from surprise to an endless scale of indignation to the loss of reason. His characters have always been a kind of graphic shortcut, a shared idea. In his caricatures, he was not afraid to address controversial social issues— as a caricaturist, he significantly engaged during the year 1968, which resulted in him being unable to publish for several years.
He only found shelter in the studio Bratři v triku, where he worked as an artist, screenwriter, and eventually director. Among all the animated films, it is important to mention at least those created in collaboration between Vladimír Jiránek and director Václav Bedřich: Pivo přes ulici /1974/, Dobré jitro /1975/, Výlet ŠŠŠ /1975/ či Děkujeme, pánové /1976/.

Petr Horáček

Producent

Producer and the biggest fan of Bob and Bobek. Since 2013, he has been taking care of the copyrights of Vladimír Jiránek, author of Bob and Bobek and co-author of Pat and Mat. Petr stands behind the success of Bob and Bobek at the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2015 and 2024, where the rabbits have had a huge success. Thanks to his experience in marketing and business, he contributes to the development of the characters Bob and Bobek, who, thanks to his care, give joy even to the current generation. He perceives the creation of the film as the opening of a new stage for Bob and Bobek in the 21st century.

Ondřej Pecha

Director

Director, artist, screenwriter, and animator. From 1982 to 1997, he worked at the studio Bratři v triku, where he contributed to the production of a number of films and series for both Czech and foreign television. He worked as a screenwriter, director, and artist on several short films for Krátký film Praha. He completed his bachelor’s degree at FAMU in 1994 with the author film *Dva sloni*, which received several awards in the Czech Republic – third place at the Famu festival, the Hermína Týrlová award, and the main Jiří Trnka award at the Zlín film festival for children’s films.

Mirek Zachariáš

Director

Director, animator, and artistic director of the studio Silent Cartoons. As an animator, he has extensive experience in both short animated works and several feature films. In 2021, he premiered his directorial debut, the animated fairy tale *O čertovi*, which was co-produced by Czech Television. In 2022, the film was included in the program of the international film festivals Anifilm and the Zlín Film Festival in the non-competitive section.

Bohumil Chomát

Producent

Producer and CEO at Silent Cartoons. He got acquainted with animated film at the studio Bratři v triku, where he worked as a cameraman on a number of successful evening series, including Bob and Bobek. In 2021, he released the animated film “About the Devil” as a producer. In 2022, he established a successful collaboration with the Silent Cartoons studio with Petr Horáček (BoBa FILM) on the first full-length animated film Bob and Bobek. He likes to accept challenges in the form of new projects and, together with director and animator Mirek Zachariaš, he tries to bring traditional Czech animation closer to young animators who work with the studio.

Pavel Tomeš

Screenwriter

Stand-up comedian, writer, and publisher. In 2022, he became the recipient of the Readers’ Award of Magnesia Litera 2022 for the novel about death “Až na ten konec dobrý.”

Zbyněk Vičar

Screenwriter

Screenwriter, writer, journalist, stand-up comedian and active reserve officer of the Czech Army. His short story book Dark Morning was recommended by the Magnesia Litera jury in the fiction section. He is currently responsible for the marketing of Moravian and Czech wines as the director of the Wine Fund.

Martin SKAM Krejčí

Main artist

Comic creator and illustrator. He started in the 90s with street art and graffiti. His comics are especially valued for their distinctive painting style, which is based on clean lines. He is also involved in other artistic activities such as drawing advertising and film storyboards and interior design. He has long collaborated with BoBa STUDIO and BoBa FILM.

Petr Wajsar

Music

Music composer and musician whose music resides at the intersection of several musical genres. He is a recipient of the Czech Lion Award 2018 for music for the film Hastrman by Ondřej Havelka and was nominated for the A. Radok Award for music for a popular musical.
